Saturday, July 28, marked the inaugural #HealthySouthFulton Family Fun Day and Back to School Giveaway at Sandtown Park. The event, which welcomed over 1,500 attendees, was hosted by Councilwomen Dr. Catherine Foster Rowell and Carmalitha Gumbs in partnership with Touch of Life Family Chiropractic.

Event organizers hope the wellness-themed family fun day will grow annually in size and impact, and help to improve the health of South Fulton residents.

“We see it as a great opportunity to bring together residents of all ages to raise awareness on a range of health issues, and to send our kids back to school with the resources they need," said Councilwoman Rowell.

Attendees enjoyed a full afternoon of music, games, and food trucks. The event featured more than 30 vendors, many of which provided information and resources in the health and wellness village. Additionally, more than 600 backpacks were distributed to local youth who will soon bid farewell to summer vacation and head back into the classroom.

“It’s my hope that this event not only inspires families to commit to making healthier choices as they start the school year, but that it also inspires continued community engagement and support of our students and schools,” said Councilwoman Gumbs. “Our students thrive most when they feel the love and support of the South Fulton village.”
