Adapting to the Andela way
Adaptability is the ability of an entity or organism to alter itself or its responses to the changed circumstances or environment. Adaptability shows the ability to learn from experience, and improves the fitness of the learner as a competitor. The first week of the Andela boot camp is over and I’m super excited to be among the select few to make it to week two, the final and most important part of the incredibly strenuous recruitment process of becoming an Andela fellow.
I’m quite sure that anyone who has gone through this process will agree with me that adaptability is a most have quality to make it into Andela. During the course of last week’s session we were introduced to a concept with the acronym ‘Y.O.Y.O’ which means — “ you own your own”. We were told that we are responsible for our own learning. Considering the fast pace of things in the tech world the ability to pick up new concepts quickly is an indispensable quality. Making it into the second week of boot camp has required a lot of change and adaptability on my part. I’ve had to adapt to the strange environment called Lagos, being comfortable outside my comfort zone, pushing myself the extra mile and generally learn and adopt new habits as a software developer.
As an aspiring software developer adaptability is key because of the ever changing technology ecosystem and the nature of software programming in general which entails working in teams.
