Safe Haven Humane Society — Happy Tales Reading Program for Kids

Oregon-based student Cody Gotchall is currently taking business classes at Linn-Benton Community College. Outside of his studies, Cody Gotchall spends time volunteering in his community. He has given his time to the Safe Haven Humane Society intermittently since 2014, and enjoys helping to care for the animals there.
The Safe Haven Humane Society in Tangent, Oregon, is dedicated to caring for homeless companion animals and helping to find them loving homes. It offers educational resources, low cost spay and neuter services, a pet food pantry, and a variety of special programs for shelter animals. Safe Haven runs on volunteer efforts, and special volunteer opportunities such as the “Happy Tales” reading program allow children to participate, too.
The Happy Tales reading program allows accompanied children in kindergarten through eighth grade to practice reading aloud to an adoptable pet. This helps children, who earn prizes as they read, develop their literacy skills and confidence. It also helps adoptable cats and dogs get the socialization they need to become excellent pets.
