A National Honor Society graduate of Crescent Valley High School, Cody Gotchall is currently attending Linn-Benton Community College (LBCC), where he is taking courses in mathematics. Cody Gotchall has lived in Oregon for his entire life and is an avid fan of the OSU Beavers baseball team.
Five former OSU Beavers began the 2017 baseball season playing for Major League Baseball (MLB) teams, with Jacoby Ellsbury the most prominent of the bunch. The 11-year veteran played for OSU from 2003 to 2005 and was drafted 23rd overall in the 2005 MLB Amateur Draft by the Boston Red Sox. After two seasons in the minor leagues, Ellsbury made his MLB debut in 2007, when he played in 33 games for the Red Sox and recorded a .353 batting average.
Since making his MLB debut, Ellsbury led the league in stolen bases in 2008, 2009, and 2013 and finished first in total bases in 2011 with 364. The Oregon native won a Gold Glove for his defensive ability that season as well as a Silver Slugger for being the best hitting center fielder in the American League after hitting a career-high 32 home runs and 105 runs batted in. Now in his fourth season with the New York Yankees, Ellsbury has 101 career home runs, 487 runs batted in, and 329 stolen bases.
