I’d like you to define what you mean by so called “authoritarianism”. You do realize that we live in a society which has a plethora of laws and regulations which require authority. The world you wish to have, with more funding to schools, healthcare, and etc require authority. You’re merely mixing self righteous intentions to soften the appeal of the authority you wish to take place. Equality is antithetical to liberty. You have to usurp Liberty in order to create true equality. Freedom is naturally unequal.

I don’t know if you binged on Locke for a weekend and thought throwing out the “social contract” made you sound educated or what but it doesn’t add any substance to your piece. There’s quite a few brands of social contract. Which one are you talking about? Hobbes? Locke? Rousseau?

Moreover, you talk about democracy like it’s the best thing to grace this big blue planet. You do realize that any philosopher worth his weight in salt disliked democracy immensely. This includes the founding fathers. You put to0 much trust into those who are involved within democracy but don’t realize who really pulls the strings behind our system. Votes are bought and if not, they are done by people who are swayed with empty minded commercials. If 51% of the population wanted a pol pot elected, how much do you value democracy then? I mean, it is the people’s wishes so it must be right.

“The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.”

— Winston Churchill
