Basic Info:

We accept writing on games, multimedia stuff concerning games, and generally neat ideas (about games). Proofread for grammar and usage before submission. Specifics below. Submit pitches and work to outcoled(at)gmail(dot)com.

What do we want?

We’re not publishing writing that you see on big outlets. So don’t ask to review something and don’t ask for general product work. Instead, consider a story from your life and how games factored into it. Pitch that. That’s exactly what we want to publish. It needs to be a story that only you can tell because you lived it.

Multimedia work?

Media is fluid and constantly evolving. If you have an idea that goes beyond a text article, you can bet we’re interested in hearing you out. If you want to make a video, then let’s talk! If you want to experiment with audio, we’re even more interested! Get creative and we’ll have a lot to talk about.

The Mission:

The Year 200X is about narratives and pushing what games writing can be. We aren’t really journalists, we’re storytellers. As such, we’re interested in what kind of stories you can tell. Travel stories, coming of age stories, sex stories — we want what you’ve got. The only caveat is that it needs to be real. Not necessarily a true story (we’re interested in fiction too!), but it needs to be grounded in real human emotion and be willing to provoke thought. Don’t fluff it out. Don’t bullshit your way to a word count. Give us something that was challenging for you to write.

Copyright stuff:

The Year 200X retains no rights to your work. We ask, out of courtesy, that we run your piece exclusively for a period of two weeks before it is printed anywhere else. If it has already appeared somewhere, discretion is left up to the editor to decide best course of action for the piece. We will continue to host the piece past those two weeks, but it remains yours to do with as you please. You will need a Medium account to submit so that you may be properly credited.

And that’s that! Now get out there and submit!
