garnet, I just read your other response to
Pu-Tai stands on my window sill looking so fecking pleased with himself.medium.com
and I think you answered your own question better than I could :) From my perspective I don’t think I had one particular motive in mind. Like most things I see it as multi-dimensional. Patronising and condescending definitely one aspect. Arrogance, self-centeredness or self-interest, there are also the not so blatantly negative aspects. A genuine desire to uplift the downtrodden but in doing so treading on or discriminating against another group, I don’t know if that makes sense. A blowing out of one candle in order to make another appear brighter, it seems counter productive to me. It is, I guess, self-righteousness but it is not understood or even recognised as such. Sometimes it is motivated by the negative in that it has a complete disregard for others and how you may affect them, sometimes because you genuinely think you are helping but blind spots in our mindfulness leave a trail of destruction.
That’s why I think your other response hits the nail squarely on the head — or perhaps it doesn’t ;) — we just don’t know, we don’t get it and we’re so busy proving that others don’t get it, yet we don’t even know what it is we think we get. Do you get that? Haha. It’s there, I got it, I know I got it, I think you got it too? You know? I get that I don’t got it. Did I ramble too much? Forgive me. :)
