Exclusive: Goldsmiths Students’ Union President Adrihani Rashid To Resign
Adrihani Rashid is set to resign her position as elected President of Goldsmiths Students’ Union, according to a leaked email.
The email, sent earlier this month to other elected officers at Goldsmiths Students’ Union from Rashid’s official email address, states: “I am writing to you to inform you that I am formally putting in my resignation as a Sabbatical Officer at Goldsmiths Students’ Union. I will be terminating my contract at Goldsmiths Students’ Union in January…” She goes on the express her thanks to those who worked with her, and comments that the future of the Students’ Union will be in safe hands.
The email was supplied to the press by a whistleblower in the public interest.
Rashid is a popular student campaigner on campus, and resoundingly won the vote to be president at the south-east London based Goldsmiths Students’ Union in the March 2015 elections. In her manifesto, she said that her main targets would be to “ensure that the Union reaches as much of the student population as it possibly can, ensuring that the work of the SU team has a real impact on student life”.
Goldsmiths Students’ Union Chief Executive Graham Gaskell did not deny that Adrihani Rashid had tendered her resignation. However, he embargoed his statement on the issue “until later in the week, probably @5pm tomorrow”, requesting that it would not be published before that point in time. It is thus not reproduced here at this time.
Adrihani Rashid did not reply to a request for comment by the time of publication.
