Comics collecting is a very common hobby. The super-heroes Spiderman, Batman, Tex, X-Meb and Wonderwoman are only some of the most collectible heroes.

Many stars and VIP collect comics too: Nicolas Cage is told to have been collecting comics for a long time. His real name is Nicholas Coppola, but he changed his name to Cage from Marvel comics hero Luke Cage. Kevin Smith, Ben Affleck and Samuel Jackson are also said to be comics collectors.

Why do people collect comics?

Comics are highly collectible, the main reasons being the followings:

  1. The hero represents and inspires collectors. Most people decide to start a collection because they are emotionally attached to their favorite hero.
  2. The design of comics itself. Collectors really appreciate the art of the comic books.
  3. The challenge to complete the serie. Some of them are very rare and hard to find, it really becomes a real challenge to get them.

But now let’s meet a really great comics collector…

Bob Ratell has one of the largest privately owned comic books collection in the world: over 90.000 comics.

His comic books cover everything: super heroes, crimes, westerns, funny animals etc. He has been collecting comics for over 40 years. The first comic he bought for himself was Amazing Spiderman. Today, he buys 115–220 comic books every month. It is a form of entertainment that he always enjoys, no matter what comic it is, it could be any comic. He store them into long and heavy boxes. He likes both reading and collecting comics.

“There are comic stories for every taste!” Bob Ratell
