My 3 Bold Predictions for the ACC

We are now less than a week away from the first college football game and less than two weeks away from the first full week of the season. As the games have neared so has all of the media’s predictions. Despite how meaningless most predictions end up being, I always find it fun to see everyone express their thoughts on how they think the season will shake out for everyone. So I’ve decided to join in on the fun this year, and I’m going to give my 3 bold predictions for each of the 9 conferences. So let’s get to it, starting with the ACC.

Louisville QB, Lamar Jackson, will win ACC Player of the Year.

  • Yes there are explosive offensive players in the ACC besides Deshaun Watson and Dalvin Cook. This might come as a shock to some as Watson and Cook seem to be the only two players mentioned nationally when it comes to the ACC, but Lamar Jackson can really ball. Despite having a rough start to last season he progressed nicely and finished with 12 passing TDs and 11 rushing TDs. He did all of this as a True Freshman, and I believe that after having a full offseason with offensive wizard Bobby Petrino you will see much improved passing numbers out of the Sophomore this year. To go along with his progression at QB he has his RB, 3 WRs, and TE all returning. And here’s one crazy stat for you, there has not been a back to back winner of the ACC POY since Charlie Ward did it in 1992 & 1993. I know what Deshaun Watson did was special last year, but I think he takes a slight step back this year and Jackson takes a big step forward becoming a household name for college football fans

Miami will win 10 games in Mark Richt first season.

  • Did you know Miami has not had a 10 win season since 2003. Did you know that Mark Richt had 8 ten win seasons at Georgia in that same span. That’s actually insane. I think Richt walks into a pretty solid situation at Miami. They have 9 returning starters on Offense and 6 returning starters on Defense. Their returning QB, Brad Kaaya, will be a top 4 QB in the ACC, which will be huge for Richt this year. Looking at their schedule, besides a home game against Florida State and a road game against Notre Dame, their other 10 games look to be very winnable. Side note, Richt yet again gets to play in the easier division of a power 5 conference (Miami=Coastal Division & Clemson, Florida State, Louisville=Atlantic Division)

Boston College bounces back with an 8 win season.

  • Last year Boston College became the butt of the joke as not only did their football team not win a conference game, but neither did their basketball team. It was an abysmal sports sesason for the Eagles, but have no fear because Steve Addazio’s nasty defense will now be coupled with a guy who actually knows how to play QB. Yes, BC’s leading passer last year had 464 yards. Insert Patrick Towles. Now Towles isn’t going to wow fans with his athleticism, but he is a solid game manager and will keep defenses honest. And as I mentioned before Steve Addazio has a nasty defense returning. So nasty that last year despite finishing winless in the ACC they still only allowed 18.0 ppg (that’s good for 9th in the nation). So yeah their offense was really really bad… Hooray for Patrick Towles!

Next up I’ll be coming to y’all with what I think is going to happen in C-USA this year. Thanks for reading and goodnight!
