Day 14: Emergence
Hell Day is Over
Wednesday Morning. 10:00AM: 10–15 page rough draft due for one class.
Wednesday Afternoon. 2:30PM: Presentation in class.
Wednesday Evening. 6:00PM: Presentation in class.
Wednesday Night. 11:55PM: Paper due.
Thursday Morning. 11:15AM: 10–12 page paper due worth 30% of the course grade.
It is 7:30 in the morning, on Thursday, and I’ve been up since Wednesday morning at 9:00AM. This is in fact my “end of the day” check in for Day 14. Was it a bad day? Was it? No. It wasn’t.
Even though I spent more than 48 hours typing and reading for courses these past few days, I managed to spend this past evening with brothers in my fraternity and that truly made it all okay. While typing through the night, I got to know some guys in my house in ways I didn’t ever expect. It made me remember why I joined this fraternity in the first place, while also making me realize how little I knew about what was to come.
With the exception of the incomplete rough draft turned in Wednesday morning, everything has gone pretty well. The paper I will be handing in at 11:15 this morning is in my eyes pretty damn good, but only the earned grade will tell.
For now I have a day of rest. But the grind won’t stop. Next Wednesday I have a final quiz in one class, and another the next day. As well as a final paper due that Friday. Luckily, in about a week that means my first year at college is about done. There are two papers due two weeks from this Saturday, but with no finals during the actual given finals week I will have the entire week open to write and revise. I got this.
My body and health overall is taking a total beating. I’ve been living off of water, carbs, protein, ritalin and soda/energy drinks. No good vitamins at play on this grind. No good balanced meals. It’s a mess. There is no question that as of May 16th a rehabilitation period will begin. I will no doubt have a re-found reliance on stimulants due to the excessive use this week and the next. I will also have to begin a major cutting back of junk food and sugary goods because that has been totally lost. Also, awesomely, no work outs have occurred since last Thursday and they probably won’t until the week following May 6th (when classes end). Hopefully I don’t get an unbearable amount of shifts that week because I’ll need the time to work and rest.
Day 14 is a brief moment of rest. Starting Saturday the grind is back. I have two final quizzes and a paper due, lovingly all right next to each other again.
