Bathroom Renovation: Before
Here are some “before” pics to help you understand what we are working with. I’m really excited to see this project get underway!

The hallway is pretty narrow. The closet (on left) sits back about 5 inches further than the basement door (on right). I’m not sure why that is and it’s always bothered me; but it is what it is.
The new wall will extend from the existing closet wall because of the entrance to the family room, so there will be a slight bump out where the basement door is. The closet door will be eliminated, the bathroom door will still be closest to the basement door but installed in the new wall, giving more space to the bathroom itself. The new door will also open into the bath instead of out. Another thing that always irked me.

The existing vanity, drawer cabinet, mirror, and light fixture are all nice and in great shape, but are really too big for this space. They will be saved and re-installed in the new full bath that we will be installing in the basement during Reno Phase 2. The washer and dryer will be stacked and installed in this space; bringing our laundry to the same level as our bedrooms. It’s kind of sick how excited I am about that.
The toilet isn’t moving. It just wasn’t worth the extra cost of trying to relocate it in any of the scenarios we envisioned. The new sink will be plumbed and installed opposite the toilet along the new wall being built where the closet was removed.

Say goodbye. This coat closet is going away. It’s in a horrible location, no where near the front door. In fact, it’s just inside what used to be the exterior exit into the *back* yard (now the doorway into the family room). Our coats never seem to actually make it into the closet, nor do our shoes. So I’m not really sad to see it go. Plus, taking it out allows us to move the washer/dryer upstairs. Have I mentioned how excited I am about that?
