Branding expert Rick Bakas joined our class via webcam to deliver his experiences that led to the creation of Weedhorn, an online platform intended to educate the not-so “dorm-room stony-bro” on cannabis. The platform is very interesting and also very compelling for a cannabis journalist to upload original content. Naturally, Rick talked about branding and gave some important tips on staying simple.

Julie Berliner and Jesse Burns from Sweet Grass Kitchen came to speak in the afternoon. Julie spoke about her experiences that led to the creation of the edible company and how it has evolved since then. Jesse highlighted some issues that regulations are now imposing on edible manufacturers and some ways of creative marketing in the cannabis industry.

Rick Simpson’s RUN FROM THE CURE documentary interested me to research more about him and his work; I found two useful videos and a podcast that some may not know exist. The documentary covers how Rick cured his own cancer and the miracles he’s been apart of in others’ lives. A tutorial on making hemp oil safely using the Rick Simpson method is of large interest for helping those in social circles that may be fighting the disease of cancer. Lastly, a recent podcast with “the Peoples Internet Radio”, an internet radio show dedicated to informing people on the simple truth, touches on some of Rick’s experiences more in depth than the documentary.
