Being a bisexual man in a binary world
As we transition to a world where people (at least the younger generation) are accepting that we do not live in a world that is purely black and white, certain people are still being left behind. One particular group is bisexuals, an often ignored member of the LGBT community. As a man I’ll be focusing on bisexuality in men, not at all to detract from the struggles of bi women who just as often see their sexuality erased (cough cough Kristen Stewart). As a man who identifies as bisexual I walk a very thin line, where I am certainly not fully accepted into the straight community and at the same time the gay community treats us as outsiders and seem just as determined to box us in to one role or another. I love men, I love women. I am currently dating a woman who I love dearly. My bisexuality does not cease to exist just because I happen to be dating a girl. And in the event I date a man in the future I do not magically become gay.
As a bisexual man I know that there are many who seek to force me into one box, for despite our increasing understanding of fluidity of gender and sexuality we still far to often refuse to understand that life is a spectrum and very few of us ever fall completely on one side or the other. My relationship choices do not invalidate my sexuality, not now and not ever.
