Graduation
Graduation is a formal event which recognises academic progress, and is public acknowledgement of achievement. This achievement is supported by fellow graduates, family and friends. I was grateful to be classed as a friend. I am not one for pomp and ostentation but the ceremony was well organised and over two hundred graduates received their certificates. Congratulations to all those who chose to peruse their studies and expand their knowledge. But a degree is not enough. The graduate has to convince the employer that he is the one for the job. He has to show that he is well rounded, has travelled, can show examples of team work, share responsibility and show leadership. Bringing the degree to life is the challenge for each graduate. Each person has a new story to tell and it looks nothing like the past. Graduation is both an ending and a beginning. The graduate has warm memories of the past and big dreams for the future. Ralph Waldo Emerson suggests that we don’t go where the path may lead but go rather where there is no path and leave a trail. Graduation goes on every day for you to make a difference. I was happy for my friend. He believed he could, and he did. Congratulations!
