Morning Glory

“Good morning and what a lovely morning it is!” That was the cheery greeting I received from a man in a hard hat and fluorescent vest who was on his way to work. What a lovely way to finish my morning walk — and for him to begin his day’s work. One of my favourite activities is to walk. I like to be out before sunrise — one of the times nature is at it’s finest. The canopy of the sky welcomes the new day. Sometimes it is an array of colours. Sometimes cloudy and grey, but always interesting. Birds awake to greet the dawn. Kookaburras are in full voice at daylight. It is a time to be more aware of the beauty of the world. While walking I try to clear my mind and be in the moment. There are few walkers or joggers out so early so I selfishly feel the morning is just for me. The new day stretches ahead of me. I am the sculptor who gets to do the shaping of my day. My job is to choose the kind of day that I will have. My days are much more productive on the days that I walk. The first part of my walk is alongside bushland so there are few things that disturb my thoughts. As I come closer to home, I am roused from my reverie by the sights and sounds of traffic and people setting off to begin their day’s work. Each day is a gift of time to use — in the work place, at home or at recreation — and rejoice that we are alive. Regardless of what the day brings, thank God.
Every day a new dawn. Every dawn a new day to love, to hope, to believe.
