To prove your point, you’ll need to define what you mean by manipulation. There is a ~2500 year old debate about the ethics of rhetoric, and when rational persuasion turns into sophistry, manipulation, or deceit. As I state in the guide, we should be affirming the true things that Trump supporters say, and maybe I should make more explicit that I am encouraging dialogue that is based upon, or could lead to, real friendship. The hypothetical audience could be your parents or best friend; at no point do I tell you to con them. My suggestions can be found in sources that range from marriage counseling to self-help books to philosophical treatises, and I’m not getting the KBG vibe here.
