Corporate Casting goes Davos:
“Female Leadership: a brave new world!”
When I walked the streets, lectures, events and parties of Davos last week, I realized I was not only right in the heart of power, the centre of the universe — but that all attending players were only human. And that felt awfully good.
One of my oldest and most respected business relations realised my quest for diversity and inclusion needed top-notch inspiration, so he gave me pass-way to all those ‘happy few’ who were carefully waggling the slippery pavements of the fortress that is Davos.
Frankly, and despite being flagged regularly at the World Economic Forum, the position of women hardly moves forward. Yes, there is an absolute broad awareness at top-level, yes, role-models have been identified and yes, progressive corporate leaders display a positive attitude in the debate.
But with less than 25% of participants female we, Women, must accept the pace will continue at the current tempo, if we do not display the ability, the stamina and the ambition to conquer and claim our rightful seats at all the right tables.
Equal play means equal pay!, so why not be part of the discussion? All in power started once, somewhere, and at first also needed a few changes at different organisations to prove themselves and establish their positions over time. So, must we.
Especially while it is the power of size and not the level of quality or innovation that matters most, as I sadly realised during the closing days of Davos. Evidenced by the overwhelming reality of Chinese investments and the degree of American leadership and influence in the digital world.
Yet, as CEO and equity partner of boutique executive search firm Corporate Casting, I continue to advocate for the gender discussion being a non-topic during debates. I continue to strive for getting the right people (women and men) in the right roles on the corporate stage.
Irrespective of size, reach or stature, dear client, dear candidate … if you want change, be brave enough to do something else than the usual. As Einstein said: “A person who never made a mistake never tried something new….”
Trust your future scripts and roles in our hands. Trust your decision to give us a chance to prove me right!
