It has been has been two and a half millennium since Aristotle first wrote Prior and Posterior Analytics. It is a field with a long history and a strong pedigree. It is a field that has been …lost.

Type analytics on your screen and a red squiggly line quickly draws your attention. Analytics by many standards does not even qualify as a word. Googling “Undergraduate Degrees in Analytics” was a worthless endeavor until recently when a small number of universities began to cobble together multi-disciplinary solutions as stop-gap solutions to this larger issue.

Post Graduate degrees in Analytics are a bit easier to find online. Determining whether they are worth the investment is far more difficult. Most people can name a great college for teachers, engineers, lawyers, or doctors. What is a great college for finding high quality analysts? If you don’t know, you are not alone.

The Problems

Analytics is poorly defined. The study of analytics is poorly organized. What is available is overly theoretical with little opportunity for practical application. And, likely as a result, analytics as a career path is a random and haphazard pursuit that more often qualifies as a detour than a true craft or passion.

There Is Nothing New Here

Believe it or not, the same was once true of the field of medicine. It was more than a century ago, but most of the complaints were analogous. At that time the field was disorganized, disjointed, and far too theoretical to be very helpful.

Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore became the first institution to address this issue. Their solution was multifaceted, but primarily focused on a post-graduate residency program that combined university education with hospital training. The new school quickly built a strong and connected community that would go on to revolutionize the field of medicine.

What Corsair’s Seeks to Do

Corsair’s Ventures vision is to do for analytics what Johns Hopkins did for medicine. By embracing new technology and combining strong theoretical education with hands-on research and consulting functions, we will transform the field of analytics.

Corsair’s will provide a new way for analysts to connect, to learn, and to engage. Like Hopkins revolution in medicine, we will begin with a rigorous vetting function, invest heavily in integrated technologies, develop immersive content, and rely heavily on mentored application.

Corsair’s model has the advantage of 125 years of technological advancement. Our model will adapt to today’s virtual landscape. It will embrace networks, social media, gamefication, and multimedia. And while Johns Hopkins was known for embracing the scientific method, we will embrace the full spectrum of analytic best practice, from cognitive science and behavioral analytics to the scientific method and bayesian statistics.

How we plan to do it

The Corsair’s model depends on the interaction of a small group of focused companies. Through a shared and connected ecosystem, these companies will bring together the people, the process, and the products needed to revolutionize the field.

Corsair’s will become the premiere name in analytics. Our content, our technology, our people, and our solutions will become the new standard of our information economy.

Corsair’s Technology will create integrated technology that leverage cutting edge software, insightful analytics, and innovative solutions to empower our mission.

Corsair’s Publishing will build thought-provoking and immersive content that engages the imagination of our customers and communities.

Corsair’s Institute will leverage this content and technology to provide a world-class education in the analytic arts.

Corsair’s Analytics will engage corporate partners, including start-ups and Fortune 500s to build access to real-world challenges and opportunities. The association of Institute and Analytics will empower applied learning and stronger comprehension.

All this will be facilitated by our common platform. Corsair’s Network will be a knowledge portal that empowers personalization, interaction, and competition. The community that organizes around it, that engages in the many opportunities for learning and professional development, will quickly grow in its influence and connection. The Corsair’s League will become synonymous with excellence.

Where we are today

By clicking on the links above, you can get a sense of how far developed each company is. Technology has a handful of products targeted at professional development and evaluation. Publishing has generated more than 25 hours of content, over 425 articles, and a community of over 16K subscribers. Institute has developed and tested a dozen content formats designed to facilitate learning and comprehension.

In the near future, Analytics will launch programs focused on building a network of corporate and academic partners. Initial offers will focus on training and evaluation, while future programs will begin to build the research and consulting engagements we will need. Our knowledge Network will launch this month, creating a centralized platform for distribution and instrumentation. The seeds for the League has already begun to grow on platforms like LinkedIn, which plan to utilize to launch a Global Analytics League before the year ends.

Together this partnership will empower the transformation of analytics. It will bring clarity and organization to this ancient discipline. It will ascribe this craft with a strong sense of application, creativity, innovation, and outcome.
