Rubio’s Chance to Win Might Have Just Flown Away
Marco Rubio was supposed to be the face of Republican Party. He was supposed to be the new guy who could reignite the passion that existed when Reagan was President. He was supposed to be the “savior” of the party, and somehow, it’s all falling apart. Donald Trump and Ted Cruz are clearly the two candidates with the best chance of winning. Super Tuesday has given Rubio one state, maybe. That one state is Minnesota. *At the time of publishing this post, Rubio leads in Minnesota, but no projections are made, yet.*
Rubio had good chances to do well, and was maybe strong enough to challenge Trump. Those chances have since flown away. The start of his trouble occurred when Chris Christie, now a Trump supporter, became Rubio’s nightmare during a live debate. Christie called Rubio out, criticizing his tactic of repeating the same things over and over again. Despite the criticism, Rubio continued to repeat himself, three times in a row at one point. The words “Let’s dispel the notion that President Obama doesn’t know what he’s doing…” have likely haunted Rubio since that night, and if Rubio crashes and burns, these words will be part of Presidential debate history.
Marco Rubio now must decide if he will keep fighting, and likely he will, as long as the money from his donors keeps filing in. If he loses Florida, and he will, I predict that he will exit the race. Many may believe that Ted Cruz isn’t likely to win the nomination, but at least he won his home state (Texas). If Rubio does drop out, who will he support? All signs point to anyone but Trump. That anyone will likely be Ted Cruz.
So we have now reached a critical point in the election cycle. If someone is to stop Trump, he or she must get going, fast. If Rubio is to be the face of the Republican Party, and the last hope for the establishment, he has to get going, fast. Alas, it is probably too late for Rubio. The Republican Party leaders are likely sitting in a room, looking at each other, and wondering how it all fell apart. They had Bush, Rubio, and Kasich, and each of them have fallen aside. I do like John Kasich, however. Ted Cruz is the best challenger to Donald Trump, and he’s not even establishment. I think it’s possible that the GOP hates him more than they hate Trump. Either way, Marco Rubio’s campaign is slipping and sliding from under him. March 15th will be the deal-breaker.
“Let’s dispel the notion that Rubio will carry the establishment and win the nomination…”
