What to expect with the first release of the Cosmic Champs game
Cosmic Champs is an uncompromising P2E game of skill and survival, with Champs travelling the far stretches of the cosmos in search of their next payday and glory.
The Setting
Set in a retro-future 13,000 years from now, civilisation has stretched to the far reaches of the cosmos. With the emergence of a shadowy, mysterious dark force across the universe, a centuries-long age of peace and prosperity has come to a shuddering halt. Only a few survivors are left to eke out an existence, roaming the cosmos in ships crewed by ex-soldiers, hotwired robots and other misfits.
Remembering the glory days, these wanderers still refer to themselves as Champs as they all seek out one thing — their next payday! Champs trawl the known universe for a potent particle of creation, called Cosmic Matter, and the rare surviving planets. Competition for resources is fierce, with Champs arriving at a remote planet only to find that they are not alone. When champs come across each other they must battle each other in a winner takes all arena to claim their right to the treasure. Over time, the Champs discover a way to restore the planets and the world as it used to be — but only if they have the motivation and willingness to work together generatively and creatively.
Gameplay
Cosmic Champs is a fast, fun paced strategy game. It is deceptively simple and incredibly fun. Constructing a deck of 8 cards makes this game easily accessible and easy to learn. You can quickly put together your deck, learn what works and then discard those cards that don’t suit your strategy. Cosmic Champs is played in real-time, with champs facing opponents in the arena for 3 minutes.
Each 3-minute battle has a tower rush format where two players battle it out for glory. The objective of each battle is to destroy your opponent’s base using any means at your disposal. If, after 3 minutes there is no clear winner the battle will continue for a further two minutes. If after this time neither combatant has their base destroyed then the combatant with the highest remaining health is declared the winner.
Each battle is winner takes all. To the winner goes the spoils. They get the treasure. The loser leaves empty-handed.
In preparing for battle, Champs choose their best 8 cards. With these cards, players must create a deck that they feel melds together in a cohesive strategy. They need to destroy their opponent’s base whilst also protecting their own base from any attacks that come their way. Your deck is constructed from cards that may include Champs, buildings, and magic/instant effects.
At the start of each game, players begin with four randomly-chosen cards from their deck which are visible on the dashboard. Each card costs a specific amount of energy to be deployed in the arena.
Players start the battle with an equal number of energy points and one energy point is replenished every few seconds, with a maximum of 10 energy points in total. Once a card is played, it moves into the reserve and is replaced by a different card from the reserve.
Gameplay Modes
Player vs Player (PvP)
Battle friends, enemies, or strangers to hone your skills while earning tokens, NFTs and unlocking Champs. The PVP arenas are the online multiplayer versions of the game. Internet access is required.
Player vs Computer (PvC)
Battle computer AI to hone your skills while earning tokens, NFTs and unlocking Champs. The PVC arena has the same characteristics as PVP, however, player battles against a computer-controlled opponent. Internet access is also required.
Tournaments
Tournaments are an exciting way for competitive players to prove their skills and win prizes while helping the Cosmic Champs ecosystem grow. Players will enter tournaments by paying an entry fee in COSG. 10% of the entry fees go into the community treasury, to maintain a healthy ecosystem. An additional 5% of the entry fees are paid to the host of the tournament (Planet NFT owner). The remainder of the fees are distributed to the players, based on the payout structure for that tournament
Do you need NFTs to play?
The short answer is no. Cosmic Champs comes with multiple options. You can build a free to play deck, a deck composed of NFTs or a deck that is a combination of both.
- We want to make Cosmic Champs as appealing as possible — to casual players and competitive gamers
- Cosmic Champs is designed to be entertaining without blockchain elements, and easy enough that those without NFT experience can make purchases later on.
- Whilst NFT ownership provides some advantages, those playing with free to play decks can still be competitive within the game.
- NFTs owned and used in the first Cosmic Champs game will be transferable to other games released in the future.
Cosmic Champs Release Schedule
The current roadmap (we are currently on schedule) has the following key highlights with regard to gameplay:
- Q3 2022 — Release 1 of the game, with Player v Computer functionality
- Q4 2022 — Release 2 of the game, with Player v Player functionality
- Q1 2023 — Release 3 of the game, with Tournament gameplay added.

About Cosmic Champs
