Cosmos India’s Meetup in Bangalore
Cosmos India, recently hosted a meetup in Bangalore, on February 2nd, 2020. The meetup took place at Innov8 co-working space, located in the heart of the city at Koramangala. This was the second meetup organised by Cosmos India in association with Inblox network.
This meetup revolved around discussions on — “Why do we need blockchain?”. The speakers during this event have built a perfect case on — how blockchain is a foundational technology and how can its power be used to create new technologies and can be applied across multiple industries.
More than 50 members from the community participated in the three hour event. Here are some highlights from the meetup -
Mayur on — “Introduction to Blockchain”
Mayur Relekar, Founder of Newfang.io, presented a talk on what blockchain is and what it is not.
He explained beautifully through his presentation that blockchain essentially is a data structure (think — linked lists), and not just a skill, community, startup or Bitcoin itself.
Tushar on — “How Blockchain is a foundational technology”
Tushar Aggarwal, CEO of Persistence have explained in his talk about how blockchain is a foundational technology.
He explained that any foundational technology has two major properties, i.e.
- Other technologies can be built on top of it
- The end user doesn’t need to know the mechanism of how it works
He analogically explained how fire is a foundational technology and how technologies like electricity are built on top of it. Similarly, when you use fire to cook, we don’t have to understand the chemical reactions occurring to produce fire.
Deepanshu — How to setup a validator node using Cosmos SDK
Deepanshu Tripathi, CTO of Persistence demonstrated how to set up a validator node in the Cosmos Network using the Cosmos SDK.

Panel Discussion
Panelists — Hitesh Bhardwaj, COO of Persistence, Naimish Sanghvi, Chief Ambassador of Inblox and Aravindh Kumar, Co-founder of Newfang.io
The panel discussion revolved around how blockchain can be used across different industries. The participants asked questions like — “How can blockchain be incorporated in the airline industry?” etc.
The session ended with a networking session — with some great conversations & pizzas!
It was great meeting with the students, developers and business professionals who joined us in the meetup. With more meetups, like this, we can encourage more blockchain enthusiasts and hence, drive them towards the adoption of this promising technology.
