Why I Quit “Teaching,” and You Should Too!

After cancer treatment I needed to get something new going. I tried Substitute Teaching. I couldn’t believe I passed the test for math, but I did. I had been an excellent student and in student government all the way up. I’d even been the First Student Representative at the Long Beach Board of Education. I couldn’t believe how poorly run the process was getting me approved to teach. There was no training on anything that mattered or gave clarity to what was expected of me. In the year and a half I subbed I experienced perhaps three hours that were satisfying. The rest of the time I was pulling my hair out. I couldn’t believe the behavior of the kids. I admire you for finding your way and cotinuing to give.
