New to Research

I’m actually scared of frogs but thought I best say hello

Hello! I’m new to all of this but am trying to improve my profile in order to improve public engagement with scientific research.

So a bit about me … I didn’t know what I wanted to do in life until I started university. I knew a general direction but I didn’t have a vision of what I was “going to be”. It was only when I went to university that I saw the potentional for change that scientific research has. I knew from that point that I wanted to become a researcher. However, the more I delved into academic studies, the more I could see that a lot of research doesn’t expand outside of academia. Even if it does, it can often be diluted down or warped by opinion to a point that the message becomes blurred or simply wrong. I want to be someone who does great research which would bring positive changes to peoples lives. To do this, I think it is important to engage with people and bring the work I do to the public domain — without the dilution or misinformation. I have recently begun a PhD looking at the cognitive effects of alcohol hangover (I am now on my second week in). I hope that I can use this platform to inform and discuss with people our current understanding of alcohol hangover and what we need to know more of in future research.
