“Lying” vs. “Bullshitting”

This is true. In this sense, I like the distinction between people who lie (who know they are mis-shaping the truth in some way) and people who bullshit (who will say anything just to support their cause). For me, it’s bullshitters (in the most scientific sense) that comprise the centre of the concentric fake news model, whereas the outer rings are composed potentially of liers and propagandists.

I wrote about this distinction between lying and bullshitting in a review of James Ball’s book “Post-Truth”. Hopefully that clears things up slightly!
