A passport is required to travel internationally. Did you know that your passport expires every 5 years? If your passport has expired, don’t worry! You can easily renew it. Here are the steps on how to renew an expired passport.

1. Gather the proper documentation. In order to renew your passport, you need to fill out a DS-82 form and submit it along with your most recent passport, two photographs of yourself, and the renewal fee. You can renew your passport by mail if it is undamaged and if you received it less than 15 years ago.

2. If your current passport is damaged or you received it more than 15 years ago, you will need to fill out a DS-11 form and submit it along with your most recent passport, two photographs of yourself, proof of U.S. citizenship, and the renewal fee. You cannot renew your passport by mail if it is damaged or if you received it more than 15 years ago — you will need to apply in person at a passport acceptance facility.

3. Renewal fees are as follows:

- $110 for applicants 16 and older

- $80 for applicants under 16

- An execution fee of $35 must be paid if you are renewing your passport in person

4. Submit your application by mail or in person (if applicable). If everything is in order, you should receive your renewed passport within 6–8 weeks.

5. If you need to renew your passport sooner than 6–8 weeks, you can request expedited service by mail or in person (if applicable). Expedited service costs an additional $60 and you should receive your renewed passport within 2–3 weeks. Know more about same day passport in Houston here!
