Challenge — HCD
We organised meetings with some social workers, introduced briefly the aim of the course and asked them whether they have any issues in which we could support them. Thanks to the fact that every help is more than welcomed in this sector many challenge-ideas were collected in no time. We still haven’t chosen any of them, but we narrowed them down to 2 challenge-ideas.

Children’s homes
It’s a significant problem that children tend to escape from children’s homes. As a result there is a high chance that they might become prostitutes or drug users. The social workers we talked with met a 12 year-old prostitute and a 9-year old intravenous drug user just in the previous weeks. It is not easy to keep the children in the institution and it’s even more important to keep the contact with them.
Social workers are in a hard situation
In Hungary has many significant social problems, however, the social sector is getting more and more suppressed. Social workers are underpaid and face tough challenges and hard topics in their everyday work. Supervision is only possible with self-financing in many cases. In Hungary operation of such social organisations can be partly covered from the contribution from the 1% of the personal income tax or from CSR actions. Regarding the latter, Hungarian companies are hardly tend to leave the “dog-child-green” triangle, i.e. they stay in their comfort zone. As a result crucial but sensitive social problems can hardly get any financial support.
During the next weeks, we will discuss the mentioned two topics, we gonna try to pick one… It won’t be easy…
