Development Spotlight: Parkside DC
This is Parkside, a master-planned community of over 1.5 million sf of new development that is the result of a joint venture between City Interests, LLC, Banc of America Community Development Corporation, and Marshall Heights Community Development Organization.
The project is taking place in Ward 7 adjacent to the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens on one of the largest remaining vacant parcels in DC. The community also boasts 3 educational institutions and is modeled after the education-centric prototype pioneered by the Harlem Children’s Zone in New York. At full buildout, Parkside will be a vibrant mixed-income and mixed-use community with 1,500 residential units, 750,000 sf of office space, a community health clinic, a 1 acre park, and affordable senior housing. Its proximity to the Anacostia River offers both tranquility and numerous recreational opportunities. Yet the community is within walking distance of the metro, further enhanced by a new pedestrian bridge, to provide incredible connectivity and accessibility to downtown DC. Parkside leverages both public and private investment including New Market Tax Credits and phase 2 is slated for a 2016 completion.
