Creatyst Interviews Writer Devanshi Doshi
An upcoming writer and an avid reader, she is amidst completing her second book, after the success of Kiara’s Secret! which has 15000 reads online!

First and foremost can you describe the major themes that the readers would get to explore in your works and how they, individually, have affected your life?
There will be only two themes described in my work for right now. They are love and passion.
My first book is itself based on both of these. I have been a person who is in love with dance and has struggled to keep it alive in me and around. Love… Well, be it family or friends I have been the eldest and quietest. I have seen love growing between people and falling apart too. This feeling or emotion as you say, I feel I understand it in its each and every phase I have seen and been through.
Well, I am trying to write genres like mystery and werewolves ( I believe in them).
What should the young Indian authors inculcate in their work that can change the perspective of the Indian audience towards Literature?
Well, the audience is tired of the old repetitive stories written in different words. Authors should let their imagination go wild. Well, if they say that in their story, the cows fly; readers will laugh but will be curious to read more. Creativity and Imagination and the way they portray their thoughts are important as these are the things which will bind the readers to what’s written. See the importance of literature is something very difficult to understand. Not each and every person will be interested in it. I have a simple logic. Be creative. Make the story creative. Readers will love it. They will read more and more of it. And soon literature will be an important part of their life which they will never let go off.
Do you think choosing to be a professional writer is a conventional or unconventional profession?
Being a writer is still a little bit unconventional in this era but won’t be later on. But hey, if you want to be a writer, be it. Society is going to talk about you but at the end will come and read your work. Ever since parents and relatives have been wanting the child to be someone who can earn a lot not they want their child to be a doctor for humanity ( there are very few who do). They have not knocked on the door of creativity yet.
The day every person starts seeing creativity and technicality as same, being a writer won’t be an unconventional job.
Which Literary Genre would be number one on your preference list and why?
According to me, mystery and love will be on the top. As mysterious stories create curiosity, makes the reader himself a detective/spy. It is the best genre which connects to the readers and involves them in the story.
Love will be a never ending charm- genre. As they say “love is always in the air”
Can you mention a few quotes that played a significant role in shaping your life?
The two quotes are:
“Being unique is better than being perfect” and “I am not the full stops in anyone’s life but I am their destinations.”
Do you fear to be mediocre? How do you manage not to fall in the rut?
Yes, sometimes I fear that I am being mediocre but then even if you write same story in different words every time you write, it will be all anew. words and emotions are important and not the script. sometimes even boring articles or stories get attention just because they are beautifully written. I always take breaks between my writings. For example, if I continuously write for a week then I take a break of 7–8 days to refresh my brain and spark it up a little.
How has Western Literature influenced Indian Literature when it comes to storytelling?
As we know that the Indian and Western cultures in themselves are very diverse and displaying them would be so too. The values and ethics which Indian people carry are different from the western. So obviously, the western literature has some way or the other influenced Indian literature. Indian have started accepting the lifestyle and chain of thoughts of the westerns so they prefer more to read their literature than ours. More of I feel that our literature is little bit boring if we see person to person. For example: instead of compiling the stories of all Indian leaders in one, there are different books on each with different perspectives without any sort of authentication.
Mention a few characteristics about your all time favorite author and how did he/ she influence your life?
Well, frankly I don’t have an all-time favorite author. Each and every person who writes: a novelist, a poet, a lyricist, everyone for me in one or the other way influences my life. Still if there is someone whose work I can read again and again is Lauren Eden and Rupi Kaur.
What motivated you to become a writer? Tell us the story behind Devanshi Doshi
I got shifted to Ahmadabad from Vapi for my Bachelor’s in Biotechnology. I was staying in a Jain hostel which was too strict. As to say my curfew time was 6 in the evening. I used to get bored a lot after coming back from my college. I was and am an avid reader but at that time, I hadn’t carried my novels with me. So I googled about online books and sorts. And then I came through WATTPAD: It is a website-app where writers like me publish their work. So first few months I started reading those books and it was shocking that kids of mere 16 in age were writing such strong stories. This is where the writer in me was born. I started writing a story with no specific genre but the way each chapter got appraise and criticism, I got more hope to write more and more. Today my first book on Wattpad: KIARA’S SECRET has more than 14,000 reads. So I have written my second and it is under editing. Then I got introduced to Instagram from where I stepped into the world of poetry. And then I thought to spread my wings everywhere so here I am.
And lastly, what do you think about Creatyst as a Collaborative platform for artists?
It is a really good platform for all those who inspire to be big and known in their respective fields. It is a platform from where they can showcase themselves and their work to the world. Actually, if I tell about my personal experience, after getting published on Creatyst my own family has started taking me seriously as a writer.
