IPL Team Preview
The Sunrisers Hyderabad made a resounding debut last season. Much to the surprise of everybody, this newly formed franchise played some exciting brand of cricket and left a lasting impression on the fans. Although, the Sunrisers didn’t have too many marquee names, but the entire team played as a cohesive unit, owing to which they got some consistent wins under their belt.
This year, the Sunrisers have some world class players in their set-up. They have also focused on covering all the areas possible that could turn out to be crucial in the protracted tournament. There is talent in abundance and there are players who have the knack of stepping up for the big matches. Remember, this team doesn’t shy away from playing fearless cricket and given the resources, Sunrisers would be a tough team to get through.
Total Squad Strength: 24
Overseas players: 7
Most expensive player: David Warner (INR 5.5 crore)
Batsmen: Shikhar Dhawan, Aaron Finch, David Warner, Venu Gopal Rao, Manprit Juneja, KL Rahul, Srikanth Aniruddha, Ricky Bhui
Wicket-keepers: Naman Ojha, Brendon Taylor, Amit Paunikar
All-rounders: Darren Sammy, Irfan Pathan, Parveez Rasool, Moises Henriques, Karan Sharma
Bowlers: Dale Steyn, Ishant Sharma, Amit Mishra, Ashish Reddy, Jason Holder, Chama Milind, P Parmeswaran, B Kumar
The Sunrisers didn’t have much Indian talent to come to their aid in the last season. Besides Shikhar Dhawan and Amit Mishra, the rest struggled to perform consistently. They were heavily reliant on the overseas professionals to get them the desired results. Also, they were very keen on doing well in home games. The part time spin contribution of K Sharma and Hanuma Vihari’s was immense for the Sunrisers.
This year, their Indian batting strength, especially in the middle-order could come under the hammer as they go deep into the tournament. Also, a short-fall of a quality off-spinner could be felt by the Sunrisers.
On the positive side of things, the Sunrisers have an intimidating batting line-up at the top. With Dhawan and the explosive Australian openers- David Warner & Aaron Finch opening the batting, it could be leather hunting for the opposition bowlers.
This top-order has the ability to murder attacks to all corners of the ground. To complement the batters, the likes of Dale Steyn, Ishant Sharma and Amit Mishra will provide the ideal support in the bowling department. Lastly, a couple of young Indian blokes from the domestic circuit could play a key role going ahead.
7 Irfan Pathan/P Rosol
8 B Kumar
10 Amit Mishra
Our fantasy picks: David Warner, Aaron Finch, Dale Steyn, Amit Mishra, Karan Sharma
Injuries: Dale Steyn has been carrying an injury to his rib for a while now. He even entered the World T20 with a few niggles, but much to the surprise of everybody bowled like a true champion. The Sunrisers will be pinning their hopes on this hostile pacer to knock the day lights out of the batsmen.
