Recent years have seen AI accomplish feats once thought impossible, from beating the world’s top Go player to creating works of art rivaling human creativity. As AI capabilities grow, these systems are being implemented in progressively social roles, such as AI assistants, self-driving cars, and robot care aides.
However, as AI enters these interactive spaces, glaring lapses in manners and etiquette become apparent. Social graces don’t come pre-programmed. Without proper etiquette training, AIs risk offending human sensibilities in their words and actions. Etiquette blunders could severely limit mainstream acceptance of AI.
