“During my first week I encountered hundreds of people earnestly trying to make the world a better place.” Are you joking? Facebook has done more to repress privacy rights, enable the security state, and work happily with totalitarian regimes to spy on their own citizens than any corporation in the world. If there ever is a police state in the United States its execution will be simplified by Facebook’s compliance.
Changing Facebook’s icons to be more egalitarian only maintains the illusion that there is something joyous or positive about a corporation that profits off monetizing our personal experiences and identity, and selling it to advertising agencies while building a dossier on us to stifle dissent.
