Quora for résumés: Introducing Crowd Vitae

Meet Crowd Vitae: The easiest (and free-est!) way to get great feedback on your résumé or CV.

Crowd Vitae is a Quora-inspired, crowdsourced résumé feedback site. For those of you wondering what “Crowd Vitae” or its nickname “CV” have to do with résumés, “CV” is an abbreviation for “curriculum vitae,” literally, “the curriculum of your life” in Latin; i.e., your résumé.

Looking for a job is hard enough; the last thing you need to worry about is how to make a great résumé. Not to mention, it’s just a lot of work. Whether catching typos; ensuring the proper usage of present and past tense in all your verbs; and learning the delicate balance between an elegant design and a cluttered one, creating, editing, and even updating a résumé is a staggering amount of work, and people often ask their friends, family, and peers for help and feedback.

Unfortunately, numerous résumé review companies try to capitalize on this need for résumé help, and it’s become quite common to see outrageous price gouging practices where people’s résumés are reviewed for hundreds and hundreds of dollars; sometimes, even more.

To help solve this problem and address this very real and practical need, we decided that the best approach was to apply a crowdsourcing solution. Accordingly, CV was heavily inspired by Quora, the phenomenal question and answer site, and the notion that people really do have an inherent desire to help others.

It turns out that this inherent desire to help others is more widespread than one would think: we’ve been absolutely blown away by the quantity and quality of feedback people have been giving on each others’ résumés, and we’re proud to announce CV to the world today.

Whether you’re a student, a recent grad, or someone looking for the next stage in your career, we hope that you’ll find some very real value in CV, and in turn, that you share it with your friends, family, and colleagues.

Welcome to the crowdsourced résumé revolution.
