The Ethereum Foundation has officially set the launch date for moving the Sepolia test network through the highly anticipated Shanghai upgrade. On February 28th, the Sepolia testnet will undergo the upgrade, marking another step towards the full implementation of the Shanghai hard fork on the main Ethereum blockchain.

Following the successful completion of the Zhejiang testnet, which simulated staked ETH withdrawals, the Sepolia testnet is currently only accessible to developers who run validators on the network. Another test network will be upgraded before the final testnet, Goerli, the largest public ETH testnet, undergoes the Shanghai upgrade.

Barnabas Busa, a DevOps engineer at the Ethereum Foundation, highlights that the difference between the three tests primarily comes down to the number of participants and network load. The Shapella fork on the Zhejiang testnet has already been activated and is available for testing by stakers and users.

The upcoming upgrade of the Sepolia testnet is a major milestone for the Ethereum community as they move closer to fully implementing the Shanghai hard fork and unlocking the full potential of the Ethereum blockchain.
