Kat Blaque Blocked Me
Personalized Censorship in Social Media Pt 2

Like many on Twitter you may be wondering, why did Kat Blaque block me? Here’s your answer …
‘You are loved UNLESS you follow someone on my blacklist, then you are blocked. And, you are blocked by everyone else using my shared shit list.’
— Kat Blaque, pretty much
My wife made the mistake of following Kat Blaque on Twitter. This is after I discovered another feminist shit-talking liberal had blocked me. I later learned that there are bots that look at who your Twitter account follows and block you (placing you on a blacklist) without the person you follow knowing about it. These folks value equality but then use a bot to block people who want to hear both sides.
I searched Twitter (as I did the last time this happened) to find out whether she shared any opinions on the topic “@kat_blaque block” and discovered a number of people asking, ‘why block my accounts?’ I found this tweet:
This makes me wonder, does Kat Blaque enjoy penalizing people for wandering outside of the echo chamber? Here’s your answer:
Shutting Down the Dialogue
It reminded us of watching an community on social media tear itself apart because of a post that started “our sister Kat Blaque…” dragging a popular feminist her for new anti-feminist boyfriend. It was a closed feminist community that had expelled a few trolls while I was a part of it. I learned a lot by reading the conversation and thinking about the points the individuals were making. Then, the red pilled feminist was introduced. The criticism was fair but, “hey, it’s your sister who blocked you without even knowing you” is not. That community is now closed, no one was directed to continue the conversation anywhere else. Everyone was silenced by the community owner. The good thing, as members of the group my wife and I can go back and revisit the content any time we like. The bad thing, it will never continue; and, no one else will ever be added unless the moderator changes their mind.
Snowflakes versus victims
This is one reason the conservative culture refers to liberals “snowflakes” and go on about free speech, toughening up, having a thick skin, etc. I’m sure Kat gets a lot of unreasonable bullshit but now she is blocking people who support her because her bot detects they follow someone who does not. On top of it, she is taking joy in her lazy script blocking people on Twitter without having to do anything including knowing who they are or why they were blocked.
I expected Kat Blaque to know the difference between harassment and threats and having a different opinion. Many of these people need therapy not a platform, but here they are. Choosing to allow bots to block people from seeing and engaging with your content on Twitter in any way, and potentially sharing that list of people with others who can do the same; it doesn’t seem like the right choice to me. It’s non-consensual, there’s no appeals process, and you likely are not seeing or engaging with the people that you have blocked.
“Harper admits that Gamergate Autoblocker is more akin to a sledgehammer than a fine tool: She is willing to block out more than 9,000 Twitter users just so she doesn’t have to hear from a vocal few hundred. People who have never tweeted a single harassing thing end up blocked by nearly a thousand people, including many influential decision makers in the gaming industry.”
— Randi Harper, creator of Good Game Auto Blocker; Newsweek — One Woman’s New Tool to Stop Gamergate Harassment on Twitter’
It’s too bad that Twitter blocks do not extend to YouTube so I am not handed Recommended Content by these people in the future.
