CyberCity 3D Texturing Options — For Autodesk InfraWorks ®

By default, CyberCity 3D’s patented modeling technology produces gray 3D models. And while most applications utilize our gray 3D for the intended uses, CyberCity 3D can apply textures to the roof and facades of a model using various photography sources, each offering a different resolution and level of detail. This document highlights each level, and briefly describes different textures are applied to the model.

Level 1: Auto-Texture

CyberCity 3D can texture buildings using the same stereo-imagery that was used to model the geometry of the building. Quality varies depending on the resolution of the source imagery. Overall, this is our lowest resolution texture, as well as the most affordable. The facades here look best from far away and/or high latitude perspectives.

Level 2: Obliques

The next level of texturing in terms of quality and price is achieved using oblique imagery. These images are taken at an angle from aircraft that is much more conducive for higher resolution facades. Oblique imagery must be collected and purchased separately from the source stereo imagery of the target area.

Level 3: Publicly Available Imagery

CyberCity 3D can also texture building facades through the use of Publicly Available imagery. Our production team can re-purpose the images seen on this imagery, as well as Street View photography for higher-resolution textures. This method is best used for areas in which oblique imagery is not available, and where imagery is fairly recent.

Level 4: Terrestrial Photography

Our highest level of texture quality is terrestrial photography. This method requires a person on-site to take photographs of the facades of the building. This is also the most expensive option, especially if the photographer must travel to the location to take photos. CyberCity 3D offers an instruction manual for clients that wish to take the photographs themselves. Photos are post-processed by CyberCity 3D, and applied to models in-house.
