I think she’s just pointing out the unintended consequences of the communities resistance to change.

One great law of history and economics is that nothing stays the same, but is in dynamic equilibrium. I’m sure the members of the community very much value the schools, police force, and interesting restaurants in the area. If they want to keep those, then probably density needs to change.

And calling it “California” doesn’t help convince anyone involved in the situation you are right. CA is has 163,696 mi² of space. There are tons of places to live in CA where a 2.5k sq ft home is reasonably priced. This piece is about a single town on a single peninsula about 25 miles long.
