America does not deserve strong female character.

The past 3 years of the entertainement have been interesting. We saw a lot of people who were not interested in a medium (video games, boards games, comic books or movies) hijacking those things in order to satisfy the ego of people whose parents repeatdly told them that they were special and the world owed them everything.

This is how we get to the mantra that video games are anti women and that male gamers not only are dead but should be ashamed to be who they are.

It has been an easy way for wanabee stars and former ones with no career to get back to the light of fame by creating fake controversy and claiming rape & death threats when they received a well deserved answer (and big « fuck off you pathetic moron).

A few of these people were Anita Sarkeesian, Linehan Graham (you know that guy who made a decent show years ago and think he is still relevant) And Arthur « it ends tonight » Chu.

When they saw the resistance of gamers (even if the industry is damaged beyond repair) they decided to just leave the ship and tries to destroy the comics industry (and trust me, the comic industry doesn’t need those loons to sucks).

This is how we ended up with the Batgirl Controversy or some horrendous titles like Ms Marvel, Thor by Aaron or the obvious “Unsolicited opinion about Israel”. I’m not even going to mention the fact that Captain America became a nazi in a cheap plot twist.

But it’s of course never enough and now even the comic books adaptations are problematic. How you ask? By giving the audience strong female characters that suffers as much as the men in the movies.

This is how the new crusade against X-Men Apocalypse who deserve a lot of shit for being a lame ass atempt at making the same movie over and over but not for this idiocy.

The problem you ask?

A bilboard.

But not any kind of bilboard, a sexist one that seems to drive women out of theater, kill newborns and sacrifice virgins to Lucifer himself.

In this picture we can the big bad guy of the movie: Apocalypse chocking the lead female character: Mystique played by Jennifer Lawrence. We can also read “Only the strong will survive”.

The problem seems to be that a woman is shown in an inferior position against a male vilain. The first person to complain about it was a twitter user that nobody cares about but it was followed by someone nobody remembered: Rose McGowan. Yeah you know, the actress who only arrived in Charmed because of the original lead actress left the show. The one that you only mention by “ah yeah, Manson ex-wife who’s not Dita Von Teese.

Ms Mcgowan decided that she need a few second of fame and claimed that this picture shows how violence against women is trivialized in everyday’s life and that it is obviousl a problem.

And you know what? I 100% agree with this.

This picture shows that when you complains about everything all the time it will trivialize the real issues that women are facing in the world.

When you complain that a BILBOARD is an act of mysoginy then you are not only part of the problem but you don’t deserve to become the voice of the oppressed.

But let’s take a look at what is happening here. Mystique is held by Apocalypse and seems in immediate danger. We all know she will survive because you can’t spoil the death of a main character in a promotional picture (or you’re a fucking moron) and because it’s Jennifer Lawrence.

But there is something else to notice “Only the strong will survive”. This sentence and the fact that Mystique is very well alive makes every complaint not valid. Yes Mystique is a victim of Apocalypse, but the fact that she struggles and does not die directly shows that she is strong enough to resist a litteral god. She has the strenght and willpower to go face to face against a deity and she can survive. Mystique is a strong character and a way more interesting one than she was in the original trilogy.

The second problem that this controversy highlight is that these people know nothing about the X-Men comics or movies.

While we can debate of the quality of the different movies directed by Brian Singer there is an undeniable truth: The main X-Men subject is not only respected but is one of the biggest strengh of this saga, it’s the antisemitism that still exists.

With characters like Magneto who was a direct survivor of the Holocaust it was obvious that the X-Men would show the struggles of the jewish community from the start of the series. And since the X-Men were all about equality it’s only normal that the women of the team face the same problem as the males. This is why when there is a fight against vilains the women won’t stay in the back and wait to be kidnaped. No, they fight and if it means that sometime they are injured or in a bad position then it’s only fair.

This promotional photography did not trivialize the violence against women, it was showing in its own way that womenc an be strong enough to face a direct threat and say “I will fight”. Of course she would not face Apocalypse only by herself because she is in a team; but since it’s a movie there’s a need of one on one combats and how can you blame for for advertising a movie with their most bankable actress?

Now the question that I am asking myself is: Does America deserve a strong female character? Why should we represent women as perfect being that can’t be harmed (No, i’m not going to talk about Rey) while the beauty of our humanity is that our flaws makes us uniques and interesting?

What would life be if everything was perfect, why would we live if there was no adversity in life? We would become a lazy bunch spending time in front of a scr…. Yes, I guess what the tumblr feminsits want is a world, that looks like Tumblr. A place where difference is not tolerated and where you can’t show any sign of negativity about a character without being lynched.

We need to get rid of this outrage culture or every bit of creativity will be destroyed.
