This is an attempt at mapping and understanding how COVID19 is affecting the business of journalism in India. The project is anchored by Cyril Sam, an independent journalist based in New Delhi, India.

New@COVID19 is a crowdsourced database documenting cutbacks in Indian newsrooms since 18 March, when Hamara Mahanagar closed down its printing and publication business. The business of news in India has been struggling, for at least a year, prior to the outbreak of COVID19.

Part of the database is currently represented as a text-based timeline of cutbacks beginning 18 March and a partial public repository of communication from news businesses announcing cutbacks.

Data recorded in the database is verified and based on tip-offs received here (linked here: https://forms.gle/e3rVcdLcFb9nTYdC8), conversations with affected journalists and other stakeholders in the business of news.
