AUGMENTED REALITY LEADER DAQRI PROMOTES PRODUCT CHIEF TO CEO
Former Qualcomm Exec Roy Ashok Signals Shift to Scaling the Business
Today, we announce that former Qualcomm executive Roy Ashok has been named DAQRI’s new Chief Executive Officer. Roy has served as Chief Product Officer since joining DAQRI two years ago, and assumes the helm from founder Brian Mullins. Brian will remain an advisor to the company and will continue to sit on its Board of Directors.
Since joining DAQRI in November 2015 as its first Chief Product Officer, Roy has overseen the successful development of DAQRI’s proprietary operating system, Vos™, released professional-grade developer tools, and is overseeing the shipping of DAQRI Smart Glasses™ later this month. During his tenure at the company, Roy has consolidated software engineering and design efforts, brought on a world-class Computer Vision team at DAQRI’s new office in Vienna, and spearheaded the strategic initiative to integrate leading enterprise tools with the DAQRI AR platform. This year, hardware and optics were added to his growing organization, aligning all of Product Development under one leader. Roy’s new role is the next step in creating an aligned organization focused on delivery of Professional Grade AR products.
Speaking on the continuity of the handoff, Roy said, “Moving forward, I’ll continue to work with Brian. He has been a friend and a mentor, and is going to continue to be a close advisor, consultant, and friend to the company and to me, and for that, I am very grateful.”
Prior to DAQRI, Roy served as director of product management at Qualcomm Vuforia, where he was the driving force behind the development of the Vuforia business unit and its AR cloud recognition platform.
“It has been the greatest privilege of my professional life to serve as CEO of DAQRI,” Brian said. “Now, as the company transitions from its development phase to a global and scalable market leader in professional grade AR, Roy Ashok is the absolute right choice to take the helm and capture the huge opportunities ahead. I have known Roy for many years and have great admiration and respect for him as both a technical and a business leader, and I couldn’t imagine anyone better for this role.”
Brian founded DAQRI in 2010, and guided the company from our initial focus on AR content creation software to recognizing the immense opportunity to use AR to change how work gets done. The company developed products like the DAQRI Smart Helmet and DAQRI Smart Glasses, put DAQRI Smart HUD display technology in more than 150,000 vehicles, and established relationships with industry leaders including Siemens, Autodesk, IBM, and Dell.
“I take seriously the responsibility of building on Brian’s accomplishments,” Roy said. “That starts with a seamless, laser focus on the continued successful launch of DAQRI Smart Glasses and our HUD projects for the automotive industry. We have the talent, operational processes and industry relationships in place to convert enormous opportunities into growth that will spread AR capabilities everywhere.”
