Many of the responses to this article are technically correct, in that the First Amendment is a legal obstacle only to actions of the government limiting a person’s right to free speech. But it is also a reflection of what we as a society believe — or at least used to believe — is important. The actions of Professor Click and the screaming campus garbage babies (thank you, Iowahawk!) show that they do not believe that free speech is important, at least for those they disagree with, and are an indication of what they would do were we to follow them into the sewer they are heading towards.

That said, regardless of whether their actions technically violate the First Amendment, it is nevertheless a criminal and/or tortious act to call for and utilize “muscle” to exclude from a public place those who were attempting to exercise their First Amendment rights to report on what was being done and said in a public manner in that public place.
