Why do plants need sunlight?
Plants make their own food by combining a gas called carbon dioxide, which they get from the air, with water from the soil. This process is called photosynthesis. To power the process, the plant uses the energy of sunlight. A green pigment in the leaves called chlorophyll traps the Sun’s energy.

Concepts:

  • Plants need sunlight (or the right kind and amount of electric light) in order to make chlorophyll.
  • Chlorophyll is the chemical that makes plants green.

Principles:

Green plants need these things in order to use the energy from light in order to grow:

  • Water
  • Minerals
  • Light
  • Carbon Dioxide
  • Chlorophyll

Facts:

  • If plants do not get sunlight, they cannot produce chlorophyll and they will lose their green color and eventually die.
  • If plants lack any of the other things they need to grow, they will die.

Do plants need soil?

Soil provides a base which the roots hold on to as a plant grows bigger. It also provides plants with water and the nutrients they need to be healthy. … Nutrients in the soil also help plants grow strong. Some nutrients that plants need are nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and sulfur.

Without soil, the world’s food web would be in trouble!

Our food supply begins in the soil, the source of everything we eat.

Nearly everything we humans eat can be traced back to soil, and that’s true for other animals as well. Wild plants need healthy soil to thrive, so other species can eat the leaves and seeds and fruit and predators can eat the plant eaters.
Water and the cooperation of its microorganisms, nutrients like calcium, magnesium and potassium are absorbed by the soil and removed from the water supply, while soil microbes decompose organic pollutants and play an important role in the nitrogen cycle making nutrients available for plants to access as needed!

What plants don’t need soil?

8 Plants You Can Grow Without Soil

  • Lucky Bamboo. 1/8. Despite its name, lucky bamboo (Dracaena sanderiana) isn’t actually bamboo at all…
  • Philodendron
  • Orchids
  • Air Plants (Tillandsias)
  • Spanish Moss
  • Marimo Moss Balls
  • Paperwhites (Narcissus tazetta)
  • Aechmea

Can plants survive in just water?

Plants can grow without soil, but they cannot grow without the necessities that soil provides. Plants need support, nutrients, protection from adverse temperatures, an even supply of moisture, and they need oxygen around the roots. It is possible to provide these necessary components for plant growth without soil.

Nowadays we cannot hide the global problem cause of our Human Modernization the Global Warming, Air Pollution and Poverty.

Climate change affects a number of variables that determine how much plants can grow. A 7% decline in the average number of freezing days will actually aid plant growth, according to the study, which relied on an analysis of satellite data and weather projections. At the same time, extreme temperatures, a decrease in water availability and changes to soil conditions will actually make it more difficult for plants to thrive. Overall, climate change is expected to stunt plant growth.

Declining plant growth would destroy forests and dramatically change the habitats that are necessary for many species to survive. And, if conditions get bad enough, forests could actually produce carbon instead of removing it from the atmosphere, exacerbating the root cause of climate change.

In connection with this, we can say “Impossible” because a plant without sunlight it will die, and if we remove the soil from a plant we cut the life of the plant, the plant on the water from a faucet or a well will not prolong its life to survive specially without sunlight.
