PJ Day — More Nurturing for Carers

Melbourne has bought out the sun today — after a week of rain and flooding across the state. Sitting in the sun in my jarmies with a cuppa and watching doves splash in the bird bath. Grateful to be able appreciate and enjoy such simple pleasures these days. DS has had a crap morning, picking fights due to boredom, bad diet and lack of quality sleep. I talk to him about the poor choices he’s been making, and how they are affecting everyone around him. The teenage brain does not seem to want to absorb anything consequential, and he goes back to his room after I turn off the wifi. Maybe he will absorb some of the words I have been spilling out.

My mum tells me we have just gone through a solar eclipse or some such. Apparently sensitive humans feel this more acutely than most. I’m definitely feeling it and slept a lot last night. DS always gets knocked around by these energies.
When you have additional stress in your life (carers of those with special needs often have this 24/7 ), it’s key to just find a way to do what YOU want to do for a change. The PJ day is critical to your sanity and I would say better than a shrink sometimes :) It’s 3pm and I’m thinking staying in my soft comfy jarmies is the best idea ever. Here are some other ideas for when you really need to nurture yourself but simply don’t have the energy to leave the house.
Nurturing for Carers
- Drink lots of warm tea, herbal tea, a little coffee :) I’m loving a squeeze of lemon with honey with hot water right now
- Do a qigong facial massage — so relaxing
- Wrap yourself in a fluffy blanket or if it’s hot wear really soft clothing
- Eat something that you love that you don’t have to cook (or clean). Here is my favourite healthy one. I also keep cacao energy slices in the freezer (without the figs)

- Phone a friend. A human voice and connection can be so soothing when we are online so much.
- Turn off your devices and watch a movie. I’m old school and still pick up DVDs from library for free. DS thinks I’m mad, I just like getting away from the internet sometimes.
- If you or a neighbour (who you like:) ) have a garden go sit in it — or do some work in it. Earthing yourself is the best.
- Lie on the floor — on carpet or mat. It’s good for your back and it gives you a new perspective. Helps get you out of your head.
It seems like everyone is giving you advice at times, sometimes you just need to get still and find out what it is that you really need. We forget about our needs as they can often be smashed into insignificance by what’s going on around us.
Peace to you.
