Preparing for State CDC
Georgia’s State Career Development conference is TOMORROW! After months of anticipation & preparation, it’s the time for DECA members to show off what they’ve been working on and hopefully leave Atlanta with a ticket to Anaheim, California in April.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when preparing to leave for Atlanta tomorrow:
- Wrap up your board and presentation materials. When travelling on the bus, it’s easy for boards to get dropped and dent the corners or even rip the materials off the front. Buying a poster board carrying cae is a smart idea, but using blankets and trash bags is a good alternative to prevent your board from being damaged before your presentation. Which brings me to my next point…
- Bring materials to repair your board if need be. Having scissors, glue, construction paper, and an electronic backup of your board items can come in handy if your board is damaged between your school and Atlanta. You don’t want to get stuck in the presentation room with your budget hanging off of your board by a strand of glue only to fall during your presentation. (I can tell you from personal experience, this is not the way to make a good impression on your judges.)
- Make a packing list. Most chapters will prepare a schedule with both conference and chapter specific events. Use this as the basis for your packing list. Generally, you should pack one professional outfit per day, a casual outfit to wear outside of conference hours, and an outfit to sleep in.
Enjoy State CDC and take in all it has to offer. Have fun and perform your best at competition.
