In round 21 of the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga the Dornbirner Eishockey Club got defeated by the HDD TELEMACH Olimpija Ljubljana 4:5 in overtime. For the Slovenes it was only the fourth victory this season.

Full of vim and vigor the visiting team started off Tuesday night’s match in Ljubljana, and eventually got rewarded with the first goal. After Jamie Arniel had been denied by Olimpija-goalie Oliver Roy, Kevin Macierzynski (16.) succeeded with his first goal of the season and the well-deserved 1:0 for the Bulldogs. Macierzynski finished off Jonathan D`Aversa’s shot from the blue line, which had deflected off Roy. Contrary to the course of the game, the home team managed to turn the game around within 39 seconds, and all at once was leading 2:1. First Anze Ropret (19.) made the puck find its way inbetween the Bulldogs-defensemen and behind DEC goalie David Madlener. During the following powerplay Gregor Koblar (20./pp) got perfectly assisted by David Planko and scored for the hometeam’s lead.

Decision not until in overtime

The second period started off a little rougher, which caused the referees to call quite a few penalties. The Bulldogs were dominant, but for the moment the puck didn’t find its way in the goal. Until James Livingston (30.) took heart and hammered the puck from the blue line for the tie. Seconds before the intermission Martin Grabher Meier (40.) got beautifully assisted by Michael Caruso and overcame the Dragons-keeper for the 3:2-Bulldogs-lead. The teams kept playing rough in the third period, which led to several interruptions and penalties. While playing 5 on 3, the Slovenes — namely Fabian Scholz (51./pp2) — managed to tie the match once more. The Bulldogs’ response followed quickly though — Chris D`Alvise (52.) shoved the puck across the line. When Fabian Dahlem, coach of the Green Dragons, pulled the goalie, Roland Kaspitz got to be at his best. Not only that he (60.) made for the tie and forced the guests into overtime — 17 seconds into it Kaspitz (61.) stroke again, and earned his team the fourth victory this season.
