In a highly competitive game in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga the Dornbirner Eishockey Club got defeated by the EC VSV 3:5. With this victory the team from Villach is continuing their triumph, celebrating their fourth consecutive road-win. The victory also helped Villach advancing to the top half of the standings.

On the day after Christmas the Eagles were visiting the Messestadion for the first time this year. It was a big game for both teams. The Carinthians wanted to keep winning on the road. The away-winning streak had helped them come close to the top six of the league lately. The Bulldogs, for their part the league’s best home team, were not in the mood to give away gifts either. Au contraire — they were intending to defend their play off spot, whatever it takes. The crowd in the Messestadion got to see an action-packed match, with many scoring opportunities on both sides. During the first powerplay the home team started off the battle of goals. James Livingston (10./pp1) got assisted by Greentree, and it was 1:0. The VSV had some chances as well, but wasn’t able to turn them to advantage at first.

Intense and combatively
Actually, the 1:0-lead after the first period was a little flattering for the Bulldogs. According to that the guests returned from the intermission pretty “fired up”. DEC-goalie Florian Hardy got tested several times by younker Valentin Leiler, who was playing an awesome game. Eventually Ziga Pance (23.) was the one to overcome Hardy, by putting the puck in the top corner. And the VSV upped the ante: Brock Mcbride (25.), assisted by Platzer, shoved the puck in for the Eagles’ lead. The encounter stayed intense and combatively. The Bulldogs were fighting hard for the tie, but it was the visiting team, who added another goal. Adis Alagic (37.) took heart, ran away and scored for the 1:3. In addition the guests got lucky, when — shortly before the second intermission — Kyle Greentree got pushed and only hit the post while tripping. The home team took advantage of the following powerplay though. Marek Zagrapan (39./pp1) made for the 2:3. In the final period the visiting team restored the two-goal-lead order, Adis Alagic (47.), scored back-handedly, for his second goal of the match. Three minutes later James Livingston (57.) had his second one as well. But that didn’t help anymore. When the Bulldogs took their goalie off the ice, Dustin Johner (60.) scored an empty net goal for the final 3:5 and another road-win for Villach.
