Trend Watch: Looks We Love

We went, we saw, we conquered! High Point Spring Market was everything we could ask for and more. There’s no doubt by the 5th day we had “market” brain, but it was all worth it. In fact, it was so worth it that we’re still marinating in the beautiful settings we saw and motivated by the new pioneering brands we established relationships with. And trust us, you’re going to want their pieces in your house asap.

There’s no shortage of merchandise to see, people to meet or even food to eat during High Point Market. We discussed trends with top designers, attended industry keynotes and met with current and new brand partners to get a preview of what’s to come and so much more.

With so much to do and see, in so little time, we’re sharing our favorite trend and three key takeways from spring market in case you missed out.

Hottest Trend: Think Inside Out!

If you want to be a trendsetter or stylish statement maker for spring and summer then you need to start looking outside the walls of your home. Embracing outdoor spaces as an extension of your indoor living style is hands-down the biggest trend for the warmer seasons in 2016. What’s great about the outdoor takeover is that most of the indoor brands you know and love are jumping on the outdoor train and serving up more stylized assortments than ever before. Plus, household outdoor brands boasting decades of experience in quality goods, are in turn creating more stylized pieces to keep pace with the expanding decorating personalities of shoppers.

Big or small, balcony or deck, it doesn’t matter — all that matters is that you step outside and breathe in the fresh air. When choosing your outdoor look you can be a big spender or a savvy-saver, your choice. There are endless ways to add affordable or higher-priced flair to your outdoor living oasis, and items like rugs, pillows, decor and durable, yet comfortable, outdoor furniture are ideal and scalable for almost any layout or space.

Top 3 Takeaways

· The mixing of textures is unshakable. It’s no secret mixing textures has been, and still is, the biggest trend with home furnishings and that was apparent throughout almost every showroom at market. Place a furry pillow on a smooth leather couch. Add a shiny metal accent to your reclaimed wood pieces. Lastly, nothing adds interest to a room quite like marrying muted colors with mixed textures.

· Shades of grey are back in business in a big way. And, we’re not even mad about it. Since the industry was over saturated with bright colors for far too long the tranquility of various shades of grey, in warm and cool tones, are welcomed with open arms. From finishes to upholsteries, greys are sticking around for a while.

· Decorating to reflect your lifestyle. If you thrive on physical activity, decorate with bright colors, bungees, and furniture that gives you a workout while you use it. If you are prone to wanderlust, incorporate items from your travels. Nowadays, there isn’t really a definitive line between someone’s decorating style and lifestyle — they are interchangeable and encouraged to complement one another.
