The wind forecast for the AT&T Pro-Am
This week, our favorite golfers and celebrities will play the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. From Thursday to Saturday, the event is spread out over three nearby courses: Pebble Beach, Monterey Peninsula and Spyglass Hill. Everyone plays each course once over the three stretch, in an order determined by the PGA. After 54 holes there’s a cut, and the top 60 and ties play Pebble Beach again on Sunday
Many people interested in daily fantasy golf have been buzzing about the weather forecast. It’s supposed to be relatively calm on Thursday and Friday, followed by 15 mph winds on Saturday. One theory I’ve seen circulate is that this wind will affect one course more than the other
Using windfinder.com, I looked at wind forecasts of multiple points in the Monterey Peninsula to see if some locations are affected more than others. Turns out, all of the nearby areas have roughly the same wind forecast. Even the wind at the Monterey Airport – quite far away from the courses and the water – follows the same pattern. This leads us to believe that there’s no advantage in looking at a player’s Saturday course draw when forming your DFS lineups
Some forecasts from Windfinder:
Pebble Beach/Lone Cypress
Monterey Peninsula Airport
Carmel-by-the-Sea
Cabrillo Point
Lover’s Point/Pacific Grove
Pacific Grove
Monterey Wharf 2

As a final note: it could be useful to look at when a player is scheduled to tee off on Saturday. Perhaps there’s some variation over the course of a day. For example, maybe the speed picks up later in the day. In that case, I’d prefer guys who tee off earlier. Don’t do this analysis now, though — check back on Wednesday as the forecast gets more accurate
