Proof of racism is sort of like proof of Bigfoot. Some people are going to see it wherever they look and think others obtuse for failing to see it. Some people are going to dress up and create it to justify their motives and “prove” it exists. Some people may even actually see it and find there are few who would not stand side by side with them ready to draw attention to or confront it.
We create most of our demons and we make them worse than they are. Often this is less about the hardship and more about our inability and unwillingness to put on our “big boy” pants and overcome it. As I look and see every race and ethnicity in my classroom receiving the same instruction I receive, as I see every type of person applying for the same jobs and interviewing with every type of ethnicity and race, as I see black Presidents, Secretaries of State, Supreme court justices, heads of business, movie stars and athletes, I can’t help but hear the sounds of “racism” without proof, so that we can fight it together, as any more than an excuse for personal failures.
