On 17 October 2018 Klaus Welle, Secretary-General of the European Parliament, gave a presentation with the title The Future of Europe, focusing on longer-term thinking, and on the political and societal challenges the European Union (EU) will have to face in the near future. With the EP elections coming up in 2019 he pointed out the numerous external pressures and influences that concern EU citizens, such as globalisation, migration, or economic stagnation.
